It doesn't end — that is the design. Escalating-fee schemes are one of the most documented forms of recruitment fraud in Ghana. The Cyber Security Authority recorded over GH¢4.4 million lost to online recruitment fraud in Q1 2025 alone, largely through this pattern. Each fee is "the last one needed." Once that is paid, a new requirement materialises. Legitimate consultants disclose the complete cost structure before any engagement begins. If new charges keep appearing after you have already paid, you are being defrauded. Stop all further payments and report to the Ghana Police Service.

You verify them independently — and that is non-negotiable. Ghana's Document Fraud Expertise Centre found that approximately 46% of documents tested in sampled cases were counterfeit — including forged entry stamps, fake passports, and Photoshopped visa stickers. A BBC investigation exposed a Ghanaian agent selling fake UK Certificates of Sponsorship for non-existent care jobs; victims were arrested at the airport when authorities declared the documents fraudulent. The most dangerous consequence: if your application contains fraudulent documents — even ones you didn't know were fake — you personally face a 10-year visa ban. Always verify UK sponsorships on the official government sponsor register, and Canadian permits through IRCC's portal. Any agent who discourages you from verifying independently is hiding something.

This is one of the most severe and under-discussed forms of agent fraud. In a documented US court case, a Ghanaian immigration consultant secretly filed additional petitions under clients' names — listing fabricated claims without their knowledge. In other cases, agents have added fictitious dependents, falsified family relationships, or used a client's identity to file supporting documents for entirely different applicants. The legal reality is brutal: you are legally responsible for the content of every application submitted in your name, regardless of who filed it. You must demand to review and approve every document before submission. Never hand your passport or original certificates to an agent without a signed receipt — and never allow any application to be submitted without your explicit written approval of its final contents.

It is common practice — and it should be refused. Salary-deduction contracts trap professionals in below-market arrangements for years after arrival, stripping the primary financial benefit of emigrating. Ghana's Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations has actively discouraged licensed agencies from charging worker-paid fees at all. Calculate it honestly: 15% of salary for two years on a Canadian nursing salary is tens of thousands of dollars extracted from your earnings after you have already done all the hard work of qualifying, credentialling, and relocating. We charge one flat consulting fee, disclosed before you sign. After that, every dollar you earn is yours.

Treat it as fraudulent until independently verified. Unsolicited WhatsApp job offers are the most common entry point for recruitment fraud targeting Ghanaian professionals in 2025. Fraudsters now build highly convincing fake pages impersonating the Ghana Immigration Service, Canadian healthcare employers, and legitimate consultancies. Real Canadian employers do not cold-message individuals with guaranteed offers before reviewing credentials. No legitimate party can guarantee a job before conducting an actual interview with the hiring employer. The presence of urgency ("apply within 24 hours"), any payment request, or refusal to provide verifiable company registration details are all automatic disqualifiers. Verify the company exists at the Canada Business Registry before any further engagement.

No — this is a documented trafficking and fraud tactic. In a case prosecuted in Ghana, an agent collected over GH¢388,000 from a client and companions, transported them to Nigeria to collect visas, and those visas were declared fake by Lagos airport authorities on arrival. The victims were arrested, detained, and eventually returned to Ghana with nothing and no recourse. Legitimate visa processing for Canada, Australia, and the USA is conducted exclusively through official embassies and government-authorised Visa Application Centres in Ghana. There is no legitimate immigration process that requires you to travel to a third country for document collection. Report any agent who insists otherwise to the Ghana Police Service immediately.

Six months is not realistic for an offshore applicant starting from scratch — and anyone quoting it is either misinformed or deliberately misleading you. Here are honest timelines based on current government data and real applicant records: Canada Healthcare Express Entry (Nursing/Offshore): Skills assessment 3–5 months + pool wait + 6-month IRCC processing = 14–20 months total. Healthcare category draws occur every 2–3 weeks and have lower CRS cutoffs (420–510 vs 520–545 general), making nurses competitive — but not in 6 months. Australia Subclass 190 (Nursing/Priority Occupations): ANMAC skills assessment + state nomination + visa processing = 14–22 months total. Visa processing alone runs 6.5–12 months post-lodgement.
